Praise the Lord.
Blessed is the man who has respect for God, who finds pleasure in keeping God’s commands.
His children will be mighty and blessed.
Wealth and riches are in his house – the wealth and riches of God’s blessings.
Even in darkness, God’s light can be seen by the upright man looking up to God. Being gracious, hospitable, compassionate and righteous.
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who is just in every affair.
A righteous man will never be shaken and will be remembered forever.
He will no fear “bad news” because his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
His heart is secure in that trust and he will not have any fear. In the end, he will look in triumph on his foes.
He has scattered his gifts to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His dignity will be honored by all.
The wicked man will see him and be vexed. He will waste away and his longings will fade away to nothing.
God take vengeance. It belongs to You.Shine God of vengeance.Let everyone see Your glory.Rise up where the earth can see You.Pay the proud back – take them down a notch or two (or three).Right now the wicked triumph and are jubilant, but not for long.
The arrogant speak wickedly, arrogantly.“See what I did, what I can get away with.I’m better than the widow, alien and fatherless.God has no part here.”
Careful!God created hearing, how can He not hear?God created eyes, how can He not see?God disciplines nations, how can He not punish you?God knows how we think, how can He not know all things?God knows how we think, how futile our plans are, how limited.
Blessed is he whom God disciplines, teaches. He is granted relief until a pit is dug for the wicked.God will not reject His own.We are His inheritance, His future.Judgment will be based on righteousness and the upright in heart will follow it.
Only God rises up in my defense, He stands up for me.Unless God had helped me – I’d be dead. His love supported me.His consolation turned my anxiety into joy.
Even under a corrupt government, God is my fortress, rock and refuge. The God of vengeance will repay the wicked, and destroy them.
God presides. He’s in charge. He rules. He judges.
God wants to know why we’re defending the unjust, showing partiality to the wicked. We should be defending the weak and fatherless, maintaining the rights of the poor and the oppressed, rescuing the weak and needy, delivering them from the hand of the wicked.
The poor know nothing, understand nothing. They walk in darkness.
God rates us as His sons and daughters, but we will die and fall like the wicked if we don’t change our ways and take care of those we should.
The wicked person doesn’t fear God. The wicked person doesn’t even really see God. There is so much self in the wicked person’s eyes that he doesn’t see his sin.
God is everywhere – the skies, the mountains, the ocean. Class distinction isn’t in God’s vocabulary – all are welcome to find love and refuge.
Continue Your love and righteousness to me.
Your mercy reaches to the heavens and the flooded streets. Your faithfulness to the skies and the ditches (there were heavy rains and flash flooding that morning, but God got me through!)
God saves peoples and animals (so we’ll see our pets in heaven)
We take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. Just like the evening when a powerful storm came through downtown Chicago and I ducked into an alcove out of the wind and the rain.
There are rich foods in Your house (we’ll eat in heaven). We will drink from the river of Your pleasure (the river of life in heaven. We’ll be so overwhelmed when we realize how pleased You are with us).
The fountain of life is Jesus and the Holy Spirit. In Your light (Jesus the light of the world) we see light.
I know You, therefore You show Your mercy to me. My motives are decent, therefore You show and share the righteousness of Christ with me.
