For God’s Sake

“Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the Lord, the God of your father David, “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you.  On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.  And I will add fifteen years to your days and I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake and from My servant David’s sake.”’”  II Kings 20: 5-6

Hezekiah was “sick to the point of death”.  Isaiah came and told him to set his affairs in order because he was going to die.  Hezekiah prays and weeps greatly.  As Isaiah is leaving the palace, God tells him to go back and deliver the message above.

I’m struck by the phrase “for My own sake”.  It’s a long list of things God did and not one of them was for the people He did them for.  There were all for God’s sake.

Hezekiah is leader of the people for God’s sake, not theirs.

God hears our prayers for His sake, not ours.

God sees our tears for His sake, not ours.

God heals us for His sake, not ours.

We go up to the house of God for His sake, not ours.

God adds years to our lives for His sake, not ours.

God delivers us from our enemies for His sake, not ours.

God defends us for His sake, not ours.

God does all things for His sake, and for the sake of His Son Jesus, not for our sake.
